The Jack Goodall Award

The purpose of the Jack Goodall Award is to recognize a Sounds of Harmony barbershopper, who best demonstrates those qualities for which we remember one of our beloved members, Jack Goodall. If it weren’t for Jack, our Barbershop Chapter might never have been chartered. Jack was instrumental in organizing the required number of men to license with the Society, and even formed a quartet to promote four-part harmony. This quartet was appropriately called The Charter Four, in which he sang lead. They performed all over the greater St. Louis area and were favored at every one of our annual shows. That in itself would be enough to name an award for him; however, Jack did much of this from his wheel chair, following a truck and train accident. Jack passed away in 1977. Each year with this award, we strive to choose the man whose “behind the scenes” contributions have provided a positive example for all of us.

The criteria used in choosing each year’s recipient are:

  • Attend most Rehearsals and Performances,
  • Serve as an Officer, on a Board, on a Committee, Sell Ads for Show Programs and Tickets, and/or receive a Man of Note Award, and
  • He must have an attitude of Co-operation, a Willingness to Sacrifice, and Promotes Barbershopping.

Please join us in congratulating the Jack Goodall awardees!
