The Sounds of Harmony Chorus has much to offer for our members, centering on “The sweetest music under heaven,” as the Barbershop Harmony Society’s founder, O.C. Cash, once described this wonderful art form.
Singing four-part harmony is the focus of what we do. Our primary goal is to help our members improve their singing skills and to enhance their musical enjoyment along the way. We really enjoy singing, and singing well pleases us – and our audience – all the more!
Our Musical Director, Doug Brooks, is a seasoned veteran in the barbershop community, in both quartets and choruses. Our Assistant Director, James Davis, is a professional musician as well as a great singing coach. Thanks to the efforts of this musical Dynamic Duo, our members receive quality lessons in vocal production and all other aspects of musical performance. In addition to our resident musical experts, we occasionally bring in coaches from around the Barbershop Harmony Society to help us refine our entertainment skills.
Our focus on quality singing has helped us to consistently place in the top tier of competitors at the annual Illinois District Chorus contest. We’ve earned the District’s Small Chorus Award and the Most Entertaining Chorus trophy many times.
Competition helps us to hone our performing skills, but it’s only a small part of what we do. Our performances all around the region run the gamut from singing the National Anthem at Gateway Grizzlies baseball games, entertaining at Church functions and appearing in parades, to spreading joy in homes and businesses with Singing Valentines presentations. We also perform holiday concerts during the Christmas Season, and present a full range of musical selections at our annual show, featuring our Chorus with top-notch guest performers.
For men who like to sing, Barbershop Harmony is the perfect way to express yourself. And singing with the Sounds of Harmony Chorus can provide the perfect means for you to enhance and share your musical gifts while enjoying the fellowship of others in your community. We hope that you’ll pay us a visit, and perhaps, want to join with us in spreading fellowship and joy through vocal harmony.
